More About Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
If you’re looking for more information than a simple list, let’s look at some details about how we can help you. Remember, Dr. Woods will explain exactly how we can help with your unique situation. Everyone’s mouth is different.
We may be able to help by taking away some enamel to make the tooth look better, a group of procedures called reshaping. This can improve a small chip, improve a tooth that appears too long or make teeth appear to line up better. Crooked teeth may respond well to reshaping. You may hear these procedures referred to as enameloplasty, odontoplasty, stripping, slenderizing or contouring. The great thing is that the results are immediate, but these procedures can cause sensitivity of the tooth if dentin is exposed.
Bonding is another option available to us for helping some cosmetic dentistry clients. For this type of procedure, we use a dental composite that looks and works like enamel to rebuild a tooth’s surface, then we sculpt and polish it to improve the look of a damaged or unappealing-looking tooth.
Plus, there are veneers, which are thin pieces glued to teeth to cover over imperfections. They can hide discoloration that can’t be bleached or whitened away and close gaps. And we can provide bridges – essentially false teeth that fill gaps between natural teeth. There are many kinds of bridges and related restorations, each with its own purpose. Exactly which can help you is something you can discuss with Dr. Woods.
We may also be able to perform gum lifting to restore or improve the gum line or perhaps bite reclamation, which can even cause the face to look fuller and healthier.
And this much we can tell you with certainty: We always use porcelain, composites and other biocompatible materials. We don’t use harmful gold, mercury-containing amalgams or anything else that can hurt you in the long run more than it helps you.
