The Zoom Chairside Whitening System is safe and simple – and it has another major advantage over other teeth whitening systems: Its low-toxicity whitening science provides excellent results. Zoom is a painless and effective approach to teeth whitening that we’re proud to offer at Brighton Dental, your biocompatible San Diego dentist.
Stains on teeth happen for many reasons, often from coffee, tea and smoking. Red Wine, soft drinks and other dark liquids as well as some highly pigmented foods also cause stains. Additionally, graying or yellowing of teeth can be caused by using prescription medicines. The issue is so common that dozens of whitening processes have been developed. Some are take-home strips while others are special gels or bleaching toothpastes. Many are ineffective, and not all provide results as good as the user might like.
Zoom is a good choice for most of our clients because it offers the following benefit:
• It’s quick and easy.
• All teeth can be treated at once.
• Results last longer than with many other treatments.
• Sensitivity after treatment is less of a problem.
• Staining can be removed from veneers and crowns too.
• There are no harmful chemicals.
• The whole process is done by a trained pro, not at home.
Taking A Closer Look At Zoom
So how does the Zoom whitening system work to bleach the enamel and dentin? It’s based on safe and effective hydrogen peroxide – the same kind of thing that some people use to bleach their hair and that you can use diluted as an oral rinse for better oral health. The Zoom system uses 25 percent hydrogen peroxide gel applied directly to teeth – a much stronger concentration than peroxide that you buy at a drugstore. This gel generates tiny oxygen bubbles that lift away stains and yellowing.
And there’s another component: a mercury halide light further activates the gel, speeding up and improving the whitening process. This light has an infrared filter that reduces heat and therefore means less sensitivity during treatment. Inside each tooth, there’s no damage done by the Zoom whitening process, so your teeth, gums and mouth stay healthy while the surfaces of your teeth looks whiter and brighter.
Just how good the results are depends on how bad the staining was in the first place and the condition of your teeth before treatment. Dr. Woods and our team at Brighton Dental will evaluate your teeth before Zoom treatment and determine how much good we can do with the procedure. If you have gum disease or tooth decay, those issues must be dealt with before we can whiten your teeth. Other options are available if Zoom whitening isn’t right for you.
Are You Ready For Zoom?
Usually, a full dental cleaning is necessary before whitening for best results. During treatment, we’ll protect you from the halide light with special eyewear and we’ll protect your gums from the strong hydrogen peroxide solution too.
Teeth whitening is never necessary or required for dental health, but it’s a useful cosmetic procedure for restoring youthfulness to your smile and giving you back some of the confidence you may have lost as your teeth have yellowed and become stained over the years.
At Brighton Dental here in San Diego, we provide a complete array of preventative, restorative and cosmetic dental services and are available for dental emergencies too.
