Your Smile Is The Most Important Thing You Wear, But Bad Breath Is Really Bad
Actress Connie Stevens, who was known as Cricket in the Hawaiian Eye TV series, said that your smile is the most important thing you wear – as we told you this week on social media. She may or may not have been talking about teeth, but her message was received either way.
We also mentioned how sensitivity may be your teeth’s way of sending you a message. And we talked – as usual – about good oral hygiene, including brushing and flossing.
But the most important thing we discussed on social media recently was how bad breath is linked to bad health. Bad breath is caused by bacteria that you have on your teeth and debris that stays on your tongue and goes bad. At least that’s usually the case. Halitosis, as the condition is called, is a mark of bad oral hygiene, gum disease and dry mouth, among other things. Your San Diego holistic dentist can tell you if you have these conditions and what approach will work to get rid of your underlying conditions and your bad breath.
But there’s more bad news. Bad breath can sometimes be caused by tonsillitis, colds and respiratory infections and even stomach and other gastrointestinal diseases. Advanced kidney and liver disease have also been tagged as reasons for some bad breath cases. That means every case of bad breath needs to be traced to its cause and eliminated – to make sure an underlying health condition isn’t to blame.
Oral health and overall health are linked in myriad ways, including in ways we don’t understand yet. Don’t let any oral health issue go untreated – or you could be risking your health as a whole. Oral problems can be a sign that you need to get your life back on track.
