There’s No Messing Around When It Comes To Oral Cancer
We talk a lot about oral hygiene as well as cosmetic and restorative dentistry on our social media channels – as we did this week. We talked this week about whether you should squeeze the toothpaste from the end or in the middle. And we tried to create a discussion about what kind of brusher you are. We even told you that foods that stain clothing also stain teeth.
It’s not rocket science or even all that interesting, perhaps, but we thought all these things were worth mentioning and maybe even fun.
Oral cancer, however, isn’t fun at all. It’s life-altering and very serious – and your San Diego dentist can be your first line of defense against this potentially devastating disease.
Actually, that’s not quite true. You can be your own best healthcare advocate when you do regular oral cancer self-exams and immediately come see us if anything seems out of the ordinary.
Signs of oral cancer (that could also be other harmless conditions but must be checked out) include:
· Ulcers that won’t heal within 3 weeks
· Red and white patches in your mouth that don’t relate to any injury or other known condition, and
· Unusual lumps or swollen places that you haven’t noticed before.
A medical doctor may or may not check for oral cancer as part of your regular exam, but a thorough dentist always will. After all, the mouth is the domain of the dentist, and our holistic dental team is committed to helping you enjoy the best life possible. That includes keeping you free from disease and making sure you get the right treatment for any conditions that arise.
There’s nothing funny, charming, interesting or compelling about oral cancer. It’s a killer that be stopped, and we can help you get the right diagnosis and treatment.
