Dr. Paige Woods is among a dedicated group of dentists working in Mexico to provide free implants to poor and elderly people with missing teeth. Our neighbor to the south has a significant problem with oral health disease – leaving up to 70 percent of people over the age of 65 with few or no teeth.
Pics Show Quality Work
While these photos may be off-putting if you aren’t accustomed to looking at dental procedures in progress, they show the excellent work of Dr. Woods in providing professional free implant services to patients in Mexico. These patients get the same clean work to modern standards that patients at Brighton Dental in San Diego get from Dr. Woods.
Today’s dental implants are ideal for those who have lost all or most of their teeth because implants are a permanent solution that can last a lifetime. In the past, dentures were the only option – for those who could afford them – but ill-fitting dentures cause problems issues with eating and speaking.
A Huge Need
Dr. Woods has chosen to devote time to the cause of tooth loss in Mexico because of the dire need. According to the World Health Organization, dental and oral disease is the 4th most costly condition to treat in developed nations – where as much as 10 percent of public health money goes to dental treatment. Yet unhealthy diets and tobacco usage that contribute to dental issues are more prevalent in some undeveloped nations that provide little public funding.
Plus, modern medicines can dry the mouth, something that wasn’t a concern in previous generations. As many as 400 medications cause this problem that worsens decay and can lead to infection. And in Mexico, it’s common for dentists to remove damaged teeth rather than repair them.
Durable, easy-to-care-for implants are a permanent answer – a solution Dr. Woods is proud to provide for pro bono patients in Mexico.
