Ceramic Vs Titanium Dental Implants in San Diego CA Area

At Brighton Dental, we know how difficult it can be to live with missing teeth. Tooth loss impacts not just your chewing but also your appearance, oral health, self-confidence, and way of life. We encourage our San Diego, California, patients to consider dental implants. Implants replace lost teeth permanently to give you an attractive, fully functional smile! Dr. Paige Woods will respond to your inquiries to help you determine whether implants are right for you.

What are dental implants?

Implants are small titanium or ceramic posts used to support artificial teeth. These posts are surgically placed in your jawbone, eventually integrating with surrounding bone tissue and becoming your new tooth roots. Once they’re securely in place, Dr. Woods will attach a dental crown, fixed bridge, or implant dentures to complete your smile.

What are the benefits of getting dental implants?

Implants have the potential to last a lifetime, making them a permanent remedy for tooth loss. They have a high success rate and don’t require support from remaining natural teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, implant teeth have tooth roots to keep them from coming loose when you bite or chew. Implants prevent bone loss and dental drift to keep your smile strong and aligned properly. Your new teeth will look, feel, and function like natural teeth, allowing you to live normally.

Should you choose ceramic or titanium implants?

Both titanium and ceramic implants provide the stability you need for your new teeth. There are, however, some major differences:

Titanium implants are made of non-corrosive metal, making them stronger and more fracture-resistant. They come in a two-piece design (a titanium screw and an abutment), giving them greater flexibility in how they can be placed. They have a longer track record than ceramic implants and cost less.

Ceramic implants are metal-free, making them a good choice for people with metal allergies. They are one-piece designs and have a natural, whitish appearance that matches the color of natural teeth. Ceramic implants have less flexibility when it comes to placement but attract less plaque than metal implants and are more compatible with bone and gum tissues.

After evaluating your condition, Dr. Woods can help you determine which implant best suits your dental needs.

Does a tooth implant look natural?

Absolutely! Implant teeth are generally made of porcelain material, which resembles natural teeth in color and sheen. By customizing your restorations to match the features of your natural teeth, we can give your smile a beautiful, seamless appearance.

How long do implants last?

Implants can last indefinitely with good oral care. Your porcelain restorations can last 20 to 25 years when cared for properly. Good brushing and flossing habits and routine dental cleanings will keep your implants strong and healthy long-term.

Where can I go for quality dental implants near me?
