Embrace dental bonding

No holistic treatment would be complete without a thorough consultation and evaluation. After all, Dr. Woods must confirm the nature and extent of your concerns, needs, or underlying problems. With an accurate understanding of what is going on in your mouth in hand, she can develop a fitting treatment plan. Bonding is appropriate mainly as a cosmetic dental treatment. So, if she finds that you have enamel erosion, tooth decay, or other health problems that require a restorative treatment, fillings, and crowns may be on the horizon. After all, seemingly cosmetic issues such as discoloration may actually be symptomatic of oral health conditions like tooth decay.

A range of cosmetic imperfections is “treat-able” with bonding, including:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Small gaps or other spacing issues between teeth
  • Teeth with minor cracks and “wear and tear”
  • Very dark stains or stubborn discoloration (resistant to teeth whitening)
  • Short or poorly-sized teeth
  • Irregularly-shaped teeth

Dental bonding makes these and other aesthetic concerns disappear by covering them up! Dr. Woods selects a hypoallergenic, biocompatible, metal-free material like composite resin. She then takes this safe material and applies her technical knowledge and artistic skill to “prepare” it. So, the material will blend in seamlessly with the rest of the tooth and its neighbors. Once the composite is prepared, she expertly applies it to the front surfaces of the visible teeth to be treated with bonding. The material is pliable for Dr. Woods to properly shape it at this stage. After everything looks fantastic, the resin is hardened and “bonded” to the tooth by using a special light.

Many of our patients appreciate dental bonding, and the process fits in well with our range of holistic dentistry services. For starters, bonding preserves the natural tooth structure. No tooth enamel is removed, though the teeth to be treated are “conditioned” and slightly roughened to ensure the strongest bond between the natural structure and the composite material. Since the tooth remains intact, it is a painless and sensitivity-free process. Bonding can be completed in one visit and is an economical option. Other alternatives include highly durable, stain-resistant, and natural-looking porcelain veneers. We look forward to discussing your options during a consultation.
