Advanced restorative dental implant services by skilled San Diego dentist

An estimated 178 million Americans have at least one missing tooth, while more than 40 million are completely toothless. Missing even one tooth can affect how you speak, chew, and feel about yourself. The good news is that dental implants by your San Diego, California, dentist can replace missing teeth with unrivaled stability and aesthetics. At Brighton Dental, we are excited to offer titanium and ceramic implants, providing personalized solutions to your unique needs.

How does an implant replace missing teeth?

Dental implants are special because they replace the entire tooth, not just the crown part. The implant itself is a titanium or zirconia fixture, which forms the root part of your new tooth. Since the implant is bioinert, it fuses with the jawbone over time to create a rock-solid foundation to support your replacement teeth.

Depending on the number of teeth lost, we can restore your dental implant(s) with a crown, bridge, or denture. Whatever the restoration, the results are so natural that no one will realize you have replacement teeth.

Why is tooth loss common among seniors?

Tooth loss isn’t a natural or unavoidable part of aging—but it is common among seniors due to several factors:

  • Gum disease: The leading cause of tooth loss, often resulting from long-term plaque buildup and unassessed inflammation.
  • Tooth decay: Cavities can weaken teeth, especially when combined with older dental work that may have worn down over time.
  • Dry mouth: Certain medications and health conditions can reduce saliva flow, increasing the risk of decay and gum problems.
  • Medical conditions: Diabetes, osteoporosis, and other chronic illnesses can affect oral health.
  • Wear and tear: Decades of chewing, grinding, or biting on hard foods can take a toll on teeth.
  • Poor oral hygiene: As you age, poor dexterity, cognitive illnesses, etc., may diminish your oral hygiene habits, creating oral health issues.

With consistent dental care and healthy habits, many seniors keep their natural teeth for life, proving that tooth loss is preventable, not inevitable. However, dental implants in San Diego provide a permanent, predictable solution if you have lost one or more teeth.

Can I be too old for dental implants?

Dental implants have a lower age limit. They offer successful results when placed in a fully matured jawbone, which doesn’t happen until you are about 21. Placing implants in a growing jawbone can cause alignment issues in the future.

The good news? Dental implants have no upper age limit. This means patients in their 60s, 70s, and even 90s can reclaim their smiles with this life-changing procedure. Dental implants are always an option in your senior years as long as you have a healthy jawbone and good oral and systemic health.

Why are dental implants special?

While tooth loss is common as you age, it doesn’t mean you live without teeth. Replace your missing or failing teeth with dental implants and live without limitations.

Dental implants:

  • Look, feel, and function like natural teeth
  • Prevent jawbone loss and deterioration
  • Restore confidence in your smile
  • Allow comfortable chewing and speaking
  • Offer durable outcomes
  • Preserve surrounding healthy teeth
  • Are easy to maintain
