Woman with white teeth

Imagine all of the frustration you’d experience if you didn’t have functioning teeth. The delicious food you’d miss out on and the self-conscious smiles you’d have to endure would be torture enough. That’s why it’s crucial to keep your teeth as healthy as possible, including strengthening any vulnerabilities.

Dental veneers are key strategy dentists use to keep your teeth as strong as possible (not to mention how great they can make your smile look, too!). But many aren’t familiar with these options or how they can help.

This guide will help you understand what are porcelain veneers and everything you need to know about them!

Reasons to Get Veneers

Before getting any dental procedure, it’s important to understand what the treatment is for and how it can help your oral health.

Veneer placement is done to protect any teeth that are damaged or have any vulnerabilities, like chips or cracks. The teeth are most often healthy beyond these imperfections so the veneers act as a shield against further issues.

It can also be completed to change the shape, size, or placement of teeth for a cosmetic finish. They can resolve issues orthodontics can’t for your perfect smile.

Veneer Placement Process

When you are getting dental veneers, you’ll generally have a couple of visits with your dentist. After your initial consultation where the plan is made, you’ll come in another time and the teeth will be shaved down so the new cap can be placed on. They’ll also take an impression to create a perfect fit.

Once your veneers are produced, the dentist will then install them on the tooth using a bonding material. This material is cured using a special light to give it the extra strength it will need.

Maintenance and Upkeep

Dental veneers aren’t just designed to look like natural teeth, they act like them as well. This means you’ll need to perform regular maintenance to keep up their strength.

Mainly this will look like daily brushing and flossing with trips to the dentist for check-ups on a set schedule. It’s also important to protect them against unnecessary roughness, including grinding or excessive force while chewing. Be careful with your veneers and you could have them for decades!

Answering What Are Porcelain Veneers

When you have dental issues, it can feel overwhelming to try to figure out a way to resolve them. Understanding what are porcelain veneers can give you a baseline to determine if that’s the course of action you should pursue.

It’s also incredibly important to work with your dentist to figure out what your next steps should be. They can evaluate your previous oral health history and your current situation to determine what will be the best, long-lasting solution. Their advice is critical to finding the most success and having the best smile.
